Essex , VT – According to Dan Hill, almost half of all fires are started by juveniles. To combat this alarming statistic, Hill founded the Essex Fire Department’s Juvenile Fire Setter’s Intervention Program nine years ago. The program educates and counsels youth who have previously started fires and those at risk for such behavior. With about 20 referrals per year, the program has a 100 percent success rate, with no recurring cases.

Hill also serves as the Fire Prevention Officer of the department. A man truly devoted to educating the public about the dangers of fire, he works full-time at FireProTec Fire & Safety Co. in Colchester.

As part of the Hometown Heroes program, Unicel donated $250 in Dan Hill’s name to the Essex Firefighter’s Association.
